I was biking to a nearby lake when I spotted them and couldn't help but take a picture (with spectacular flip phone quality might I add!).
Another plus of rural life, brought to you by our lovely friends here, is the AWESOME homemade ice cream! It's a bit pricey, but it's the best you'll ever taste.
Although cows will usually come right up and look for food (they gnaw on your hand a bit and wrap their big pink tongue around you) these guys were a little shy, probably because there were calves around.
Seeee? We named him Hector. There's no story behind it. He just looks like a Hector.
Now whereas these docile creatures are usually contained, we do have the occasional jail-break, which results in a cow crossing. Drivers put their car in park and watch as big cows mosey across the road. Little bizarre. Even people in my town don't see that very often. We're more accustomed to swerving in and out of deer herds.
By the way, I hit my first deer the other day while driving. It's sad and frightening to take the life of such a large animal, but we say "first" here for a reason.

Rest in Peace, Mama Doe.
Love,
